The Malta Business Bureau and the Malta Customs Division are organising a Seminar on the Authorised Economic Operator Scheme (AEO)
on the 25th June 2009 between 9.00 - 12.30 at the Conference Hall of the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry.
The AEO is designed to balance increased security requirements with facilitations for compliant operators who trade with non-EU countries. It is central both in the EUs Customs Security Programme and to its efforts to lighten administrative burdens on the trade.
Traders benefiting from the AEO scheme will enjoy simplifications in both conventional customs procedures and from customs controls safety and security measures. The AEO scheme will grant a number of operators (who fulfil the pre-established eligibility criteria) a fast-tracking of their customs brokerage work. Furthermore, the status of an AEO granted by one member state will be recognised by the other member states. Advantages of obtaining the AEO certificate are, besides simplifications in the customs procedures, which secure AEOs will also need to submit less data for the pre-arrival/departure declaration.
This seminar is intended to generate more information about the AEO scheme, particularly in terms of the benefits connected to the AEO status. It will also provide guidance on how to become an AEO.
